Air Berlin has signed an agreement with GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) to lease three Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft.

The aircraft, part of GECAS’ existing order book with the Canadian OEM, are expected to being entering Air Berlin’s fleet from September 2016, with the remainder of the aircraft joining the fleet from November 2016.

Alec Burger, president and CEO of Stamford-headquartered GECAS, said the leasing agreement shows demand for “economical turboprops” is continuing to expand.

The Q400 transaction will take the number of the aircraft operated by the German carrier to 20.
