Air Canada and Air China have agreed the underlying principles for a revenue-sharing joint venture which they aim to have up and running by the end of 2015.

The Star Alliance members have signed an MoU outlining the principles for the JV which will enable them to expand codeshare agreements to new airports and to benefit from “enhanced cooperation in the areas of sales, marketing and airport operations”.

The announcement was made by Canada’s prime minister Stephen Harper who is in Beijing during an official visit to China.

The launch of the JV will be subject to the airlines securing the relevant approval from competition and other regulatory bodies.
