Loss-making flag carrier Air India has celebrated an anniversary in typically calamitous fashion as the company’s website crashed on its self-proclaimed “Air India Day”.

The titular event was supposed to mark the merger between Indian Airlines and Air India in 2007, since when the carrier has lost billions of dollars.

To “celebrate” this anniversary Air India was offering tickets from $2 before taxes, but its website was unable to handle the volume of customers that this drew.
