<p>Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia have announced they are looking at producing their own biofuel in a move aimed at reducing emissions and improving fuel security.<p>The airlines confirmed today (March 14) that they had both issued a request for information to explore the opportunity to acquire locally-produced biofuel for aircraft made from waste material.<p>David Morgan, Air New Zealand's chief flight operations and safety officer, said: “By working in partnership with our alliance partner Virgin Australia we hope we can stimulate the local market, drive innovation and investment and potentially uncover a sustainable biofuel supply suitable for our respective operations.”</p>
