AirAsia Receives SE Asia’s First A320neo

AirAsia has taken its A320neo, becoming the first airline in the South East Asia region to operate the aircraft.

The CFM LEAP-1A powered jet was delivered to the carrier last Thursday (September 15) at its main base in Kuala Lumpur.

AirAsia currently has 575 A320 Family aircraft on order, with 404 of these comprised of the neo variant.

The carrier increased added to its order book at the Farnborough Airshow in the summer by placing a firm order for 100 A321neo jets. with a total of 575 aircraft ordered.

Tony Fernandes, group CEO of AirAsia, said the fuel savings produced by the A320neo made it a particularly attractive aircraft.

“The aircraft will deliver fuel savings of 15 percent and additional range capability of 500 nautical miles, which will be translated to low fares for our guests. This is further complemented with the extra seats installed, pushing the capacity up to 186 per aircraft,” Fernandes said.
