Alaska Airlines and JetBlue Airways are looking to buy Virgin America after the US budget carrier put itself up for sale, according to reports.

Bloomberg reported on Monday (March 28) that according to people familiar with the matter, discussions between California-based Virgin America and the two bidders are continuing and any deal could be confirmed by next week.

The news agency said Asian carriers have also expressed an interest in acquiring Virgin America, but under US foreign ownership regulations, they would have to partner with a domestic bidder to pursue any deal.
