Alaska Airlines has ordered six 737-900 aircraft from Boeing in a deal worth $594m at current list prices.

The latest order brings Alaska’s order backlog with Boeing to 79 aircraft.

Four of the new aircraft will be delivered in 2016 with the remaining two scheduled for 2017.

Seattle-based Alaska, which is transitioning from 737-400s to 737-900s, confirmed the new aircraft will be used to expand its Pacific Northwest network.
