American Airlines (AA) has posted profits of $597m for Q4 2014 and $2.9bn for the year, a significant turnaround from 2013 where it posted a loss of $1.8bn for the year.

In its first full year since merging with US Airways, AA said its positive results were due to increased passenger demand and a reduction in fuel costs.

CEO Doug Parker, who predicted 2015 profits should exceed those of 2014, said the fall in fuel prices won’t lead to it adding more seats than previously planned or changing its business strategy.
