Japanese carrier All Nippon Airways (ANA) has jointly developed new economy class seats with automotive component OEM Toyota Boshoku.
The new seats which are 17.5inches wide and pitched at 31 inches, marks Toyota Boshoku’s first involvement in the manufacture of aircraft seats.
Toyota Boshoku said the new seats are based on its experience in designing seating for cars and were structured to “limit muscle fatigue” and “maintain a relaxing posture”.
ANA confirmed that the seats will be installed in a 2-3-2 formation on its 767-300 aircraft.
The carrier plans to install a total of 1,560 seats in six 767-300s with the first installed on aircraft servicing domestic routes from June 2015.
