Air New Zealand (ANZ) has marked becoming the launch customer for Boeing’s new Dreamliner. More than 1,000 Boeing employees from the 787 programme joined with airline executives and guests to celebrate the milestone. The carrier’s Rolls-Royce powered 787-9 forms part of its fleet modernisation effort and is the first of 10 such aircraft scheduled for delivery. The aircraft is due to operate on ANZ’s Auckland–Perth route from October 2014 and to Tokyo and Shanghai from November. Painted in the airline’s distinctive black livery, another of ANZ’s 787-9s will be displayed by Boeing at the Farnborough International Airshow next week.
