Air New Zealand (ANZ) has signed a contract with turboprop manufacturer ATR for 15 additional ATR 72-600s in a deal worth $375m at current list prices.

The Auckland-based airline had previously placed an order for seven ATR 72-600s in 2011 and has since exercised all of its five options as well as converting two purchase rights into firm orders.

Once all of the aircraft have arrived by 2020, ANZ will operate a fleet of 29 ATR 72-600s.

Christopher Luxon, Air New Zealand’s CEO, said: “We have operated ATR-600s since 2012 and we are very satisfied with the aircraft, both in terms of the customer experience and operational efficiency, which contributed to achieve our sustainability targets.”
