Cargo carrier Atlas Air has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Southern Air for $110m in a move aimed at expanding its global footprint.

Cargo carrier Atlas Air has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Southern Air for $110m in a move aimed at expanding its global footprint.

The deal to acquire the group will include Worldwide Air Logistics and its two subsidiaries, Kentucky-based Southern Air and Florida West International Airways.

The acquisition is subject to U.S. Department of Transportation approval but is expected to be finalised in the next few months.

Southern currently operates five 777-200Fs and five 737-400Fs under agreements with DHL Express, while Miami-headquartered Florida West operates scheduled and charter services using three 767-300Fs for LAN Cargo.
