Austrian Airlines has brought its fleet renewal programme forward to this year, it has announced.
It will replace its fleet of 21 Fokker 70 and 100 aircraft with 17 medium-haul E195 jets.
The renewal programme will start in the autumn, with its first E195 in operation before the end of 2015, and finish at the end of 2017.
The E-jets joining Austrians fleet are being transferred from Lufthansa CityLine, which is due to receive CRJ900 NextGen jets from Eurowings.
It has not yet been decided whether Austrian Airlines will receive any additional medium-haul aircraft.
Jaan Albrecht CEO of Austrian Airlines confirmed that the carrier had considered Bombardier’s new CSeries for the fleet renewal, but decided in favour of using aircraft from other parts of the group as it enabled the fleet renewal programme to start this year.
