More than 250 airlines will be offered the chance to accept bitcoin payments as a result of an agreement between Bitnet and Universal Air Travel Plan (UATP).

“Our partnership will make it easier for UATP’s member airlines to accept payments in bitcoin via a lightweight integration that leverages existing UATP reporting and refund interfaces," said Akif Khan, VP of solutions strategy at Bitnet.

UATP has a network of 260 airline members, including American Airlines, British Airways, Etihad and GOL.

AirBaltic became the first airline to accept Bitcoin payments in July last year.
