Brisbane Airport Prepares To Become Australia’s First ‘Bio-Port’

Virgin Australia, Brisbane Airport and SkyNRG are working together to create Australia’s first ‘bio-port’ at Brisbane Airport, and will firstly produce a feasibility study, which should take 12 months to complete. The three will look at locally available feedstocks and sustainable and cost-effective ways to transport and convert them into biofuel. Virgin Australia’s chief operating officer, Sean Donohue, said: “South-East Queensland is an ideal base for this project because it is one of our largest hubs and hosts many potential sustainably harvested feedstocks for biofuel, including woody weeds, crop residues and bagasse.”
