The director general of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) said the country is on course to invest up to CNY500 billion ($178bn) in 193 civil aviation projects in 2015 to support growth and demand.

Breaking down its investment, Li Jiaxiang said CNY200 billion ($31bn) will be allocated for 51 infrastructure projects in cities along the routes of China’s “one belt, one road” initiative, which CAAC said includes Urumqi and Kunming.

Li said as part of its civil aviation growth strategy, the government also plans to expand China’s traffic rights with Central, East and West Asian countries to pave the way for new routes.
