Swiss regional carrier Darwin Airline is to reduce its workforce by 20 per cent as it shifts emphasis from offering scheduled flights to wet leasing and charter operations, according to local media reports.

In a letter seen by the Swiss newspaper Corriere del Ticino, Darwin is looking to cut approximately 60 of its 320 employees, with the number of job losses split evenly between flight crew and ground operations.

Darwin, headquartered in Lugano, has operated as Etihad Regional since January 2014 after the Gulf carrier acquired a 33.3 per cent stake in the airline.
