Despite Profit, Air France Difficulties Remain

Air France-KLM swung to a first profit for years in 2015, although sales were down on a like-for-like basis when excluding currency movements and the 2014’s hugely damaging pilot strike.

<p>Air France-KLM swung to a first profit for years in 2015, although sales were down on a like-for-like basis when excluding currency movements and the 2014’s hugely damaging pilot strike.<p>Helped by cheaper fuel the carrier turned a €129m operating loss from 2014 into an €816m profit, but while margins also moved out of the red, at 3.1% they are still thin.<p>Going forward, the airline group warns that “expected savings on the fuel bill [will] be significantly offset by unit revenue pressure and negative currency impacts”. One bright spot, however, was reduction in net debt from €5.4bn to €4.3bn.</p>
