An Emirates operated 777-300 aircraft crash landed at Dubai International Airport yesterday (August 3) before catching fire on the runway.

According to reports the 13-year-old aircraft, flying to Dubai from Thiruvananthapuram, India, was on a normal approach before pilots abruptly told air traffic control that they would abandon the landing.

The aircraft then crash landed with one of its engines falling away and burst into flames.

All 300 people on board onboard Flight EK – 282 passengers and 18 crew – managed to escape the burning aircraft, but one firefighter tackling the blaze was killed after an explosion from the widebody jet.
