Aircraft component supplier Essex Industries has secured a multi-million dollar contract to supply protective breathing equipment (PBE) for Emirates' fleet.

Under the contract, obtained through its UAE-based distributor Safari Aviation Services, Essex will install PBE for crew members on the airline's 234 Airbus and Boeing aircraft.

The unit provides wearers with head and respiratory protection for at least 15 minutes during emergency conditions and eliminates the need for an oral or nasal mask enabling the crew to more easily communicate.

The PBE system is FAA, CAA, EASA, CAAC and ANAC approved, and is used by major airlines in the US.
