Ethiopian Airlines overtook South African Airlines to become Africa’s largest carrier by revenue and profit in 2013, according to the latest edition of IATA’s World Air Transport Statistics. With revenue of $2.3bn in 2013, Ethiopian now ranks 37th in the world in terms of revenue and 18th in terms of operating profit. The airline, which has been operating for 69 years, operates a fleet of 66 aircraft, including seven 787s. Ethiopian is set to take delivery of three more 787s this year. The firm has set a goal to increase its annual revenue to $10bn by 2025.
