Etihad Airways has confirmed a net profit of $73m for 2014, up 52.1 per cent over the previous year marking the highest ever annual profit from the Abu Dhabi-based airline.

The results marked its fourth consecutive annual net profit, while Etihad said earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) also increased by 32 per cent to $257m.

Total revenues for last year reached $7.6bn, an increase of 27 per cent on the previous year, while passenger numbers reached 14.8 million.

The carrier attributed its better financial performance to its codeshares with other airlines, and its string of investments in “strategically important” carriers including Air Seychelles, Aer Lingus, Jet Airways and Virgin Australia.
