Eurocontrol Welcomes Increase In ATM Records

The number of Europe's airport safety reports increased by five per cent in 2012, reflecting "continued improvement in reporting maturity and the effectiveness of national safety data flows", Eurocontrol has said. Following its 2013 annual safety report, Eurocontrol's Safety Regulation Commission (SRC) found that a record 36 of its member states had reported ATM-related occurrences. The number of non-severe occurrences also increased by more than 38 per cent compared with the year before. "States need to make it possible to use state-of-the-art occurrence reporting and provide both investigation tools and skilled personnel to ensure the completeness and quality of safety data," commented Karsten Tilenda, the newly appointed chairman of the SRC.
