Fare Blunder Costs Southwest

The US Department of Transportation (DOT) has fined Southwest Airlines $200,000 for breaching advertising rules. Southwest had offered flights for $59 from Atlanta to Los Angeles, Chicago or New York, although no seats were available at that price. The DOT also levied an additional $100,000 fine that had been suspended following an earlier violation of the rules by Southwest.
