FOCA Approves Etihad’s Darwin Stake

Etihad Airways’ 33.3 per cent investment in Swiss regional carrier Darwin Airline has been approved by Switzerland’s Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA).

Etihad Airways’ 33.3 per cent investment in Swiss regional carrier Darwin Airline has been approved by Switzerland’s Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA).

FOCA said it ratified the agreement due to the “adoption of a new business model that reduces dependence of Darwin vis-à-vis Etihad”.

It also stated it was satisfied that the deal complied with European guidelines related to the control and ownership of carriers.

The approval allows the airlines to codeshare on flights in Europe and beyond.

Lugano-based Darwin has been operating as Etihad Regional since January 2014 after signing an equity partnership with Etihad.
