French President Francois Hollande has confirmed that the EgyptAir-operated A320 aircraft carrying 66 passengers and crew on a flight from Paris to Cairo early on Thursday (May 19) crashed.

Flight MS804 disappeared from radar at around 2:30am Cairo time shortly after leaving Greek airspace, and Hollande told a news conference earlier today that he had been informed that the aircraft crashed but “no hypothesis” could yet be ruled out for potential causes of the crash.

Greek and Egyptian forces have begun a search operation in the Mediterranean Sea, where the aircraft is believed to have gone down.
