GE Aviation has opened a new $40m indoor engine test facility at its site in Peebles, Ohio.

The new facility is the eleventh test site at the 28,000m² Peebles centre and the second designed specifically for large commercial engines.

The company, which will begin testing production engines at the new facility before the end of 2014, said the expansion of the Peebles site was needed to meet the growing volume of GE90 and GEnx engines on the market, as well as the new GE9X and LEAP engines.
