The scheduled flight from Shanghai to Beijing used a biofuel from Beijing-based Sinopec which is made from waste cooking oil collected from local restaurants.

The 737-800NG aircraft, which carried more than 100 passengers, was fuelled with a blend of approximately 50 per cent biofuel mixed with conventional petroleum jet fuel.
