Hainan Airlines is planning to order 30 787-9 aircraft in a deal worth $7.7bn at current list prices.

The airline said it would use the aircraft to meet growing demand from China’s burgeoning middle-classes who, with more disposable income, are traveling more frequently.

The order would be Boeing’s biggest so far this year and would bring the OEM’s backlog for the mid-sized version of its 787 to 855 aircraft.

To meet demand, Boeing said it plans to increase its 787 production to 14 a month by 2020.
