Approximately 60 flights have been cancelled at London’s Heathrow airport today due to hurricane-force winds. The airport said yesterday that around 20 per cent of its 1,288 daily flights would be cancelled between 06.00 – 11.00; about 10 per cent would be cancelled from 11.00 – 16.00; and about five per cent during the rest of the day. Stansted, Gatwick and Bristol airports have reported that they are operating normally, however, many train services and roads running to airports in the South East were closed this morning due to debris from the storm. Gatwick Express, the fast train service to Gatwick airport, was cancelled until 11.20am today. The UK Environment Agency has issued 19 flood warnings and 147 flood alerts. At least two people have died in the storm.
