JetBlue awarded a five-year contract for Embraer E-190 heavy maintenance and paint to Premier Aviation.
Premier Aviation started running two lines of heavy maintenance for the aircraft at its facility in Rome, New York, on Jan. 4. Initially the MRO will paint the aircraft at its facility in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada, but later it will migrate the JetBlue painting to the upstate New York location.
JetBlue flies the 100-seat E-190s to eight airports in New York, along with other locations. It updated the fleet at the end of 2016 with free wireless broadband internet.
Canadian-based Premier Aviation purchased the MRO from Empire Aero, owned by Israel Aerospace Industries, in 2010. IAI opened the facility at the former Griffis Air Force Base in 2003.
