Start-up ultra-low cost carrier Jetlines has ordered five 737MAX aircraft for delivery from 2021 in a deal worth $438m at current list prices.

The Canadian firm has also taken out options for a further 16 of the aircraft and the deal includes some conversion rights to the 737MAX 8 aircraft.

Vancouver-based Jetlines aims to offer low-cost domestic flights from mid-2015.

It will operate a fleet of A319s on routes to unserved destinations, including Regina, Prince Town and Kamloops, to avoid competition with established carriers Air Canada and WestJet who hold 80 per cent of Canada’s domestic market.
