Lufthansa Technik’s (LHT) Malta subsidiary will provide base maintenance services on more than 100 easyJet-operated A320 Family aircraft after signing an agreement in Valletta earlier today (September 5).

The contract with the UK-based low-cost carrier will run for the next five years.

The airline’s director of engineering, Ian Davies, said the decision to expand its agreement with LHT was based on previous experience at stations in Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, Milan and Sofia along with a recently signed cooperation at London Gatwick Airport.

EasyJet currently operates more than 200 A320 Family aircraft, and has an order in place for the A320neo variant, with deliveries set to begin next year up until 2022.

Stephan Drewes, Lufthansa Technik vice-president production network aircraft base maintenance, said: “This is an important contract for the entire network with works to be performed in our facilities in both Sofia and Malta.

"I trust the expertise and engagement of the Lufthansa Technik Malta staff to deliver up to the expectations and beyond. Malta is a cornerstone in our base maintenance network.”
