Malaysia Airlines' (MAS) regional subsidiary, MASwings, has taken delivery of its first ATR 72-600 aircraft. The delivery is the first of 20 72-600s placed under a firm order in late 2012. At the same time, MAS also took options for a further 16 of the aircraft. MASwings, which currently operates a fleet of 10 ATR 72-500s, will introduce nine ATR 72-600s until 2017, mostly for fleet expansion. With the aircraft, MASwings will increase its frequencies and will add new routes in East Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Puerto Princessa in Palawan Island, Philippine. Datuk Captain Mohd Nawawi Awang, CEO of MASwings said the 72-600s had given it the “ability to link a huge coverage of communities and to contribute to the development of tourism and business”.
