The maintenance division of German engine maker MTU has signed a $188m 10-year MRO contract with startup carrier VECA Airlines (Vuelos Economicos de Centro America).

The deal covers the V2500 engines which power the El Salvadorian airline’s two A319 aircraft.

Under the contract MTU Maintenance will provide on-wing services and engine trend monitoring alongside standard MRO services, as well as providing line replaceable units (LRU) and an LRU storage pool in El Salvador.

VECA began operations in January with a flight between San Salvador and Gutemala City and is looking to expand across the Americas.
