Pilots at German flag carrier Lufthansa are to begin a two-day strike today in an ongoing dispute over early retirement benefits.

The strike, the second action this year, involves cockpit crews on short- and medium-haul flights and has led to the cancellation of 750 flights.

Flights operated by Lufthansa subsidiaries Germanwings, Eurowings, SWISS and Austrian Airlines were not affected.

Previous strike action, brought over Lufthansa’s plan to scrap salary percentages for pilots retiring at 55, has proved costly for Lufthansa, which confirmed last year’s strikes cost it €232m ($246m).
