Cargo operator Nordic Global Airlines (NGA) will discontinue operations by the end of May, with shareholder Finnair citing overcapacity in the sector and depressed freight pricing as factors behind the “unavoidable” decision.

Finnair, which has a 40 per cent stake in Helsinki-based NGA, said the move will not impact its Finnair Cargo business or its overall financial position.

From 2011 to 2014, Finnair leased freighter capacity from NGA mainly to cover traffic in Asia.

Finnair said it stopped using separate freighter operations at the end of last year after deciding to focus on carrying cargo on passenger aircraft.
