The new aircraft will be delivered into Norwegian’s fleet by 2018 and will be used to grow the airline’s long-haul routes.

Norwegian currently operates eight 787-8 and one 787-9 aircraft, but is expected to grow to 40 of the aircraft type by 2020.

Norwegian CEO Bjørn Kjos said: “Our intercontinental operation is crucial to the company’s global growth and the creation of new jobs.

"The Dreamliner is a great airplane with high passenger comfort, long range, low fuel burn and reduced emissions."
