QZ8501’s Flight Data Recorder Retrieved

Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency, which is working to find the remains of downed AirAsia flight QZ8501, has today (January 12) pulled the aircraft’s tail piece from the Java Sea and recovered the flight data recorder.

The recorder, which forms one part of the aircraft’s black box, is said to be in a good condition and is being transported to Jakarta for analysis.

The Associated Press reports that the aircraft’s cockpit voice recorder has also been located by divers but that it has yet to be retrieved as it is buried under wreckage.
