Ryanair is set to become the launch customer for the newest member of the 737 MAX family. The low-cost carrier has ordered 100 737MAX 200s and has options for a further 100 aircraft in a deal worth $11bn. The order will expand Ryanair’s fleet of 737s to 520 aircraft by 2024. Based on the same airframe as the MAX 8, the MAX 200 provides an extra 11 seats by incorporating a mid-exit door. Boeing claims that the 200-seat aircraft will have operating costs that are up to five per cent lower than the MAX 8. The MAX 200 will be powered by CFM’s LEAP 1B engine.
