Irish airline Ryanair has opened a new European training centre at London Stansted Airport which it said will create up to 450 new UK-based jobs for engineers, pilots and crew.

At a ceremony on Monday (May 16), the low-cost carrier said the roles will be spread across its 13 UK airport hubs as part of an investment of more than $1.4bn in support of 14 new 737-800 aircraft scheduled to enter its fleet.

At the unveiling, Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary also reiterated his earlier calls for Britain to remain in the European Union (EU) when the referendum over its future membership takes place on June 23.

O’Leary warned that jobs and investment would be at risk if the UK withdrew from EU membership.
