Scandinavian carrier SAS and the UAE’s Etihad Airways have signed a codeshare deal.
The agreement is the first between the two airlines and, subject to regulatory approval, will begin on January 19 with SAS placing its SK code on Etihad flights between Abu Dhabi and European cities including Düsseldorf, Rome, Zurich and London Heathrow.
Meanwhile, Etihad Airways will place its EY code on SAS flights from those European destinations to Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm, as well as flights beyond these hubs to other Scandinavian destinations.
The airlines are also set to develop a “frequent flyer” agreement.
The deal marks Etihad’s 47th airline partnership and its 22nd in Europe.
While refraining from joining a global airline alliance, in October the carrier launched Etihad Airways Partners to “bring together like-minded airlines”.
