US carrier Southwest Airlines has signed a contract with GE Aviation for its flight efficiency services to support its fleet of 737 aircraft.

The agreement includes the use of flight efficiency and flight operations quality assurance (eFOQA) analytics and GE said the services will help Southwest increase fuel efficiency and reduce carbon emissions across its fleet of nearly 700 737s.

Mike Van de Ven, Southwest Airlines executive vice-president and chief operating officer, said: “Optimising the performance of a fleet the size of Southwest’s requires smart technology that delivers big data in a consumable way. The GE Aviation Flight Analytics System will allow Southwest to continuously improve the reliability and efficiency of our operation.”
