Indian low-cost carrier SpiceJet said it is close to placing a large order for new aircraft in Q1 2016.

According to its chairman and managing director Ajay Singh, the airline is talking to both Boeing and Airbus about a deal.

Singh said SpiceJet submitted quotes to both OEMs earlier this year and having received estimates, is now evaluating them.

Singh, who returned to the airline he founded last year when it was on the verge of financial collapse, said it is also talking with ATR, Bombardier and Embraer about acquiring smaller aircraft for regional routes.
