Strike Forces Lufthansa To Cancel 218 Flights

A strike by the Vereinigung Cockpit pilots’ union on Friday (September 5) resulted in Lufthansa cancelling 218 flights to and from Frankfurt airport.

A strike by the Vereinigung Cockpit pilots’ union on Friday (September 5) resulted in Lufthansa cancelling 218 flights to and from Frankfurt airport.

The action was in the second in as many weeks in protest over proposed changes to pensions. Lufthansa confirmed that the disruption impacted 26,000 passengers, with 5,000 flown from other airports and 750 exchanging their flights for train tickets, the remainder completed their journey on Saturday (September 6).

An unrelated four-hour strike by Italian air traffic controllers on Saturday resulted in a further 12 of Lufthansa’s flights being cancelled.
