Sunwing To Retrofit 737-800s With Split Scimitar Winglets

Sunwing Airlines is to retrofit its fleet of 737-800s with Aviation Partners Boeing ‘Split Scimitar’ winglets. The airline said that when applied to the aircraft’s existing blended winglets, the Split Scimitar upgrade would add strengthened spars, aerodynamic 'curved' tips, and a large ventral fin, which is expected to improve performance and decrease fuel burn by approximately seven per cent. “We feel we have a responsibility as a market leader in Canada to continue investing in technology which reduces our environmental impact,” said Stephen Hunter, CEO of the Sunwing Travel Group. “This initiative has the added benefit of improving cost efficiency so that we can continue to provide great value for our customer's vacation dollar.”
