Aeroflot has seen a sharp rise in domestic bookings which more than offsets a fall in international traffic following the deterioration of Russia’s relations with the West.
For the year to August domestic traffic was up by a third on the same period in 2014, whereas Aeroflot transported six per cent fewer international passengers. “This was mainly attributable to increased demand for domestic flights, growth of in-country tourism [and] a rise in low-cost travel,” the airline said in statement.
While in 2014 international and domestic traffic was split evenly, this year domestic has climbed to 60 per cent of Aeroflot’s overall traffic.
