Swiss International Air Lines will become the world’s first allergy-friendly airline next month, after introducing tailored ground and inflight products. The carrier has teamed with the European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation (ECARF) to offer guests products and services geared for passengers with allergies. Swiss will start serving alternative lactose and gluten-free food and drinks and make changes to its aircraft cabin interior, all of which are designed to enhance the air travel experience for allergy sufferers. Sonja Ptassek, media relations manager at Swiss, says: “Over the past years there has been a steady increase of passengers who are affected by allergies and an increasing customer need for an air travel environment that is allergy-friendly. “The initiative is also part of a larger initiative that Swiss is embarking upon to offer more individual solutions throughout the travel journey. Business wise it means that we have a unique selling proposition as being the only airline to be certified as allergy-friendly”.
