United Apologises For Awful Start To Year

Chicago-based United Continental has blamed severe weather for a $489m Q1 loss. The airline cancelled 35,000 flights in the quarter, most of which fell under its regional operations. “Our revenue performance in the first quarter was by no means an acceptable result,” said chief revenue officer Jim Compton, following a result that stood in stark contrast to a $213m Q1 profit at Delta Air Lines. Following the news yesterday (April 25) United’s shares were down 10 per cent at close of trading.
