United Flights Grounded By Computer Issues

United Airlines temporarily grounded its US fleet on Wednesday (July 8) after experiencing computer problems.

The grounding, which lasted for more than an hour but didn’t affect any flights in the air, was the carrier’s second in as many months and resulted in 59 flight cancellations and more than 800 delays.

United spokeswoman Jennifer Dohm cited a problem on a failed computer network router that reduced connectivity and disrupted its ability to communicate data to aircraft on the ground.

The carrier also confirmed this was caused by an internal issue and not due to an outside threat.
